Historic & Famous sites

The Freedom Trail started when we stepped off the subway. The first building we came upon was the Park Street Church. The (white) steeple is considered the most beautiful in New England. Founded in 1809 it played a key role in the movement to abolish slavery. It also has the most beautiful bell ring that I have ever heard. We stood in the street and enjoyed just listening to it.
The Old Corner Book store, which is now a Mexican restaurant?, published famous American authors Hawthorne, Emerson and Longfellow.
The photo with the flag is where the Freedom Trail began for us.
The building surrounded by high rises looks so vulnerable amongst the skyscrapers is the Old State House. In 1770 the Boston Massacre happened directly in front of it. The story goes that a mob of about 75 Bostonian were fired on by 9 British soldiers. Five of the people were killed. Towns people didn't believe justice was done.
As I read about the historic buildings, I was surprised to know that many have been demolished. Sad story I think.
In any event, we are waking from a great, comforting sleep at the Omni Hotel. Shortly we will be off for another great day in Boston.
